VBA Brolga week 16– 5/10  to 12/10/18

Huge advancements this week for us!  We have started our trotting with confidence and getting so much more forward.  We even had a small canter on both reins which was short but balanced into and out of the transitions.

He also started trot poles this week which he was just perfect with and showed some real athleticism in the use of his hindquarters and his abilities.  Sid very heavily relies on vocal cues for confidence and responds beautifully.  If I tell him he is a “good boy” and give him a neck scratch, he always wants to stop because he can’t walk and enjoy a scratch at the same time. Lol.

He walks to the mounting block without being led, and he just stands there waiting for me to get on.  I always just stand there for a period, as I like a horse that waits for me to go.  It is also for safety reasons that your horse should stand and wait for you.

At the end of the ride, he stands next to the mounting block for me to get off, but not always.  If we were to do this every time, he would want to go there all the time.  I also stop in random places and get on and off, so he does not predict where I always get off.

I always finish by having some fun and playing games with him.  This has made a huge difference to him wanting to be ridden.  He has really started to enjoy the ridden work again.
