Australian Brumby Challenge ©
Well i have been busy in this our 10th week, and the halfway mark of the challenge.
This week we have really stepped up VBA Jill’s training.
I had made a decision that if i was to do it on Jills time it was never going to happen. Perhaps she will not be my best Equine friend, but we are developing a good working relationship first. We can work on the friendship later.
(That is not to say that my training is Unfriendly, but it is a working relationship)
This week we started by roping her. Now i know that this can be un-popular idea, but there are some facebook videos up if you would like to see what i did exactly.
I am a strong believer that it doesn't matter what tools you use, it is the intention that you have while using them. You can be cruel with your hands or with a dressage crop.
I also want to point out that there is a big difference between roping a horse and getting a connection to its feet, and using a rope to choke down a horse, something that i would never do, or do i support in any way shape or form.
After a few good sessions we have achieved in a short space of time.
Rubbing both sides with confidence, from Jills face to tail.
Both front legs, along with her belly.
She is confident with the saddle pad.
Ropes and flags
We have started to to get some nice forward movement too. Building on yielding her hips and front feet sideways and of course leading or following a forward feel.
I am feeling much better about the process and although Jill and I may not be as fluid as i had imagined we would be by Equitana. I think we will make an appearance. Who knows maybe even an impression?
