We had another great trip out this week to the Smythfield Gymkhana. A busy pony club show that had everything to go with it. After allowing him some time to settle in the little yards I brought him back to the float and tacked him up and it was just as if we were at home. We spent much of the day just walking around or standing around taking it all in. I don’t want him to feel pressured in this type of environment. There was a little obstacle course set up and we had a go at that. Moonshine was pretty wary of many of the obstacles but in true honest form did it all after some encouragement. We went back in later in the day to have another go and he went straight around. I didn’t take part in any of the other classes, I went into the warm up ring of the show jumping and popped the little jumps, and did some schooling in some of the arenas that weren’t currently in use just working on all the things we do at home, like softening exercises and transitions and rhythm. I feel it was important to do these things in this environment without forcing or making things happen like you usually would at a show when trying to be competitive.
The rest of this week has been spent much the same as it has been in other weeks, schooling sessions and rides out. I’ve been doing my best to work in some of the props I want to use in my freestyle to his daily routine so that we are always working on that.
I spent a little bit of time this week watching back some videos and photos that were taken over the last four months. It’s easy to lose sight of how far we have come when working on things like side passes and lead changes. I’m certainly feeling some pressure with Equitana looming, but he has done me so proud already that no matter how things go at Equitana I cannot be disappointed.
