WEEK 15 VBA Waratah

Great week with the most consecutive rides I have been able to get in, since no more traveling ect.

She has came far with her strength being able to hold her trot and ride for longer and longer. Waratah  has been a mare that has needed loads of let down time in the ride and short sessions past bout 30 mins I could see she was mentally tired and could not learn more. But as this riding becomes more familiar she is able to breathe and learn in motion. Woo Hoo! Very important we achieve things but she isn't overwhelmed or in instinct just doing what’s asked but not understanding or being ok with it. After all we are riding together as mates, she is not there to be my slave. This week we have introduced the bridle with her just wearing it no reins connected. Seems funny with only 5 weeks to go. But here is my reasoning: First this mare had shocking teeth with a displaced wolf tooth, so there is no way I wanted the bridle to cause her pain before her teeth were taken care of.  Second The bridle for me is only for refined communication, so I need to see the horse completely relaxed and riding well in all gaits and out before bridling. To avoid a scared moment where I need to pull on a rein in a hurry because in a halter it wont hurt the soft tissues of her mouth like it would in a bridle. I just found they have a better correlation with the bit when it hasn’t caused them pain.  Great week excited this mare is coming along.
