Tamara Janus and VBA Nugget: Week Fourteen

This week started off with Nugget going to my local pony club muster. We did flat work and some low level jumping. I don’t think he’s going to be a showjumper anytime soon, but he tried really hard and didn’t get bothered with the other horses running around.

At home we have been working more on leg yield, side pass & vertical flexion or softening in the bridle. Nugget has shown a bit of his stubborn streak but even a little progress is still progress with these horses.

On Thursday I had another coaching session with Wayne & we identified a few areas where Nugget & I need to work on. He has always struggled in the backup and often gets stuck in the halt. Remember earlier where I said he is happy just standing around doing nothing? Lol

Well turns out we need to work together for both of these things to become better & ensure Nugget has the best possible start for the next chapter of his life after Equitana.

There is an old saying that “Like an arrow, sometimes you have to pull backwards to move forwards” We will be doing that this week with a strong focus on groundwork before progressing to under saddle again. I think every horse has something to teach you. This competition, allowing both horse and trainer 150 days, brings out a lot of challenges & opportunities to learn. I am very proud to say that I will never stop learning and I will take every opportunity to do so.
