Tamara Janus and VBA Nugget: Week Fifteen
Well if you have been following Nugget’s progress I am sure you are wondering how we went after last week going back to some groundwork to progress under saddle.
I am happy to report he is doing great! Even better than I expected 😊 Nugget’s struggles in the backup was that he would hollow out his back and drop his chest down almost to the ground. He would often throw his head around and get bothered with this whole manoeuvre. He now steps lightly and softens in the bridle, taking steps underneath him & is starting to round his back. This seemed almost impossible last week but by taking the time to show him how to relax into this he has done really well.
Side pass Nugget would get stuck in the halt and just not move, by going back to showing him on the ground I was able to keep his feet moving & this helped greatly transition this back to under saddle.
There is so much you can teach a horse on the ground to help ease the load & confusion when learning under saddle. I haven’t taken any ridden photos this week as my usual photo helper has been busy. Instead you will have to bask in the shiny glory that is Nugget now 😊 He is putting on condition really well & although its hard to see in this photo he is roaning out over his back & rump considerably!
