Tamara Janus and VBA Nugget: Week Sixteen
What a busy week we have had! Over the weekend Nugget went to Samford Working Equitation for a look at the obstacles and working in the dressage arenas. He was a little unsure at first at the different grounds but settled very quickly! For a young horse he does accept new places very easily. Nugget can now open/close a gate under saddle, sidepassing off my leg well. We are looking forward to their first competition day in November where we will put Nugget’s skills to the test before Equitana.
Unfortunately on the way home Nugget has a slip in the float and took some hair off his back. It happened very quickly and on a straight bit of road with no sign of why or how it happened. When we got home Nugget was treated with Tuffrock Poultice to reduce pain, swelling & inflammation. On Monday, the chiro visited & gave Nugget the all clear for riding and confirmed it is just superficial. I am pleased to report it is healing really well and is not sore to touch. This incident has also not affected his float loading skills as we made sure he was still happy to load and wait afterwards.
During the week we have been continuing to focus on leg aids & Nugget is progressing really well. For a horse who was quite stubborn in the beginning, he has really turned a corner and is showing he is learning and retaining new exercises 😊
We have been hit with some storms for most of the week so decided to book our local indoor facility QSEC (Queensland State Equestrian Centre). We arrived as the black clouds were coming over and just escaped the deluge as we entered the arena. I had a coaching session with Wayne Williams whilst the thunder & lightning crashed overhead. I am super proud of the way Nugget maintained his calm demeanour whilst the heavens were opening up. He worked exceptionally well & I think whomever purchases Nugget at the end of this will not be disappointed. For a horse that is only 4 he has developed a better work ethic than some of my older horses & keeps his cool in any situation.
