Tamara Janus and VBA Nugget: Week Eighteen
Ok so if you’ve been following along you will know that time is passing so quickly now as we get closer to Equitana!
Only 3 weeks to go!!!!!!
This week we have focused a lot on obstacles as whilst Nugget will give everything a go, he is more of a wait…have a look… then approach something new. I want Nugget to feel confident when being shown all the new things at Equitana and be able to approach anything without pausing for a few moments beforehand. So, by showing him a lot of obstacles on the ground during each session he has developed more confidence under saddle.
We also took a trip to the beach with my daughter Jolene (3yo) and her best friend Savanah (7yo) where they both took turns having bareback pony rides. He was so sweet with them & dealt with them running around while I rode too. Nugget is most happy just plodding along & loves getting outdoors.
Later in the week we went to Queensland State Equestrian Centre (QSEC) at night in their indoor arena under lights. He did a great job again, first time seeing stadium seating, large banners on the rails & having the trains going past every 20minutes. We worked on opening up in the canter then starting to collect. At the end we set up a jump and Nugget went over at a trot & canter with ease.
Whilst I am letting Nugget go at auction I will be sad to see him go. We have worked so hard together and it has not been an easy road. Often feeling as though he would rather be in the bush than the arena & empathising with him (often tearing up)…. But then I remember he didn’t have that option, his herd was going to be culled if it wasn’t for the amazing people at the VBA and this challenge.
I am so grateful to everyone who has reached out with a kind word of encouragement during our journey… in the darkest of hours when as a trainer you wonder if you have done enough or can rise to the challenge…. Its these small things that help me through. So THANKYOU 😊
