Tamara Janus and VBA Nugget: Week Eight
Wow…week 8! The time is really starting to fly past now.
As we get closer to Equitana I have noticed a growing interest in the challenge and each individual Brumby. At the start of the week Nugget had his first fan visit from the lovely Fleur, she has been watching the challenge for years and was very excited to meet one of the stars.
During the week most of my sessions with Nugget have been a lot of general handling and grooming…he is still dropping his coat like a sheep who has just been shorn.
I managed to sneak in a few rides in the roundyard and arena and Nugget is progressing well in his forwardness & transitions. He has however, always struggled lunging to the right & he often counter-canters in this direction. As this hasn’t resolved over the past few weeks I decided to book Nugget in for a visit from my local equine chiropractor, Bob Kneale. Poor Nugget was out in his Neck, shoulder and chest which would have been causing this imbalance and inability to stretch to that direction. How or when Nugget put himself out is a mystery… he could have been in the wild for years with it and never known. I’m glad he has been adjusted and I am looking forward to working with him in the following weeks to see the results.
Later in the week we were contacted by another fan! Rachel messaged about an upcoming school project her 11year old daughter Asha was working on about “The plight of the Brumbies”. When they arrived, you could tell Asha was a keen horsewoman and was bursting to know more and meet Nugget. After a short demonstration and having a chat about the challenge she asked if she could hop on…. Obviously, I agreed, if she had a helmet to wear… and 5mins later she was onboard Nugget bareback. Interacting with different people and having different riders will be so important to prepare Nugget for his future. I don’t want him to become dependant on one person & not be able to cope with new situations or people.
After Asha & her Mum left we loaded up on the float and went down to Beachmere our local beach for a cool down as it was almost 30 degrees here yesterday! Nugget loves the water and we worked on some new ideas for our freestyle while having some fun in the sun 😊
This week I chose the picture of Asha & Nugget to show you here but if you want to see more pictures or videos, check out my page “TJ Equine” https://www.facebook.com/Tjequineservices/
