Tamara Janus and VBA Nugget: Week Nine
So, this week we have been working on progressing Nugget’s education under saddle. We have been using various exercises in our sessions to create lighter steering, better direction & a soft feel.
We still have a long way to go but he has come so far in such a short time I can’t help but reflect on the fact that he was a wild horse just 2 short months ago. He truly is an amazing animal to accept so much and try so hard each session.
This week we have also been continuing to work on our forward and canter transitions. I am pleased to report we can now canter both directions and for the most part picking up the correct lead!
Nugget has been introduced to many obstacles, desensitizing tools, people and other things… One special person he has accepted has been my 3yo daughter Jolene. She often sits at the side of the arena yelling out words of encouragement like “Go faster Mummy!” or “Trot! Trot!”
Well after weeks of watching and having the occasional pat, this week she wanted to take Nugget for a walk. He accepted her little person energy all in his stride, walking and trotting and even halting when she stopped.
