Australian Brumby Challenge ©
This week I spoke in front of my whole school about the Australian Brumby Challenge and Dolly’s Dream Foundation. I am holding a bake sale to raise money for the Dolly’s Dream Foundation next Wednesday. I am extremely lucky to have such a supportive school and classmates that are getting onboard with this fundraiser and spreading the message of caring for others.
This week I revisited teaching Dynamo to back up which she is now very comfortable with. I can apply a really small about of pressure and she will back up and then stop when I ask her. I also began working on getting her to just move her front feet or her back feet. However, I still need to work on this next week. In a turn on the forehand, the horse’s front legs remain more or less on the same spot, while their hind legs make a turn around the front legs. The same can be applied for a turn on the haunches however the back legs stay in the same spot. I have done this by getting her to move one of her feet by gently pushing her side and then rewarding her. I also let Dynamo out into the bigger paddock which she really enjoys and I have begun working on her lunging. Dynamo is enjoying the warmer weather and while she is grazing I brush her or pick up her feet.
Next week I will work on lunging and leading. Depending how Dynamo feels I might also introduce her to some new obstacles. Dynamo and I would like to thank McDowells for sponsoring the 2018 Australian Brumby Challenge. We would also like to thank all other sponsors.
Dynamo and I look forward to telling you about our outing on the weekend so if you want to find out more you can follow our journey on instagram by following vba_dynamo or on facebook by liking the page ‘Teagan van Gaans’ and VBA Dynamo.
